The South West zonal chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association Of Nigeria (IPMAN) has distanced itself from the hike in petroleum pump price, as well as the nonavailability of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) currently being experienced across the region.
Speaking with Journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital yesterday, IPMAN South West chairman, Alhaji Dele Tajudeen attributed the increase in pump price of PMS to a rise in the loading cost of the product from the private Depot.
He disclosed that his association members presently purchase the products between the rate of N172: 00 and N175: 00 per liter from the Apapa and Lekki Depot, while others get their supplies from the Abule - Ado Depot between the rate of N182 and N184 per liter.
Tajudeen further disclosed that IPMAN has over N20 Billion with the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) for over three months till date, stressing that his members across the region are also badly hit by the nonavailability of the product, which he said has tied down their investment capital which are mostly bank loans.
While lamenting the hardship effect, which he said the people of the region could be passing through, IPMAN South West chairman said "we just want the whole Southwest Citizens and indigenes to know that it is not our fault. IPMAN should not be blamed for the hike in price we are also trriblely effected .
"Some of our members paid for the products over three months ago at government depots without loading and it is holding our business down. We borrowed money from different banks and the interest is increasing so,the situation is more than terrible with our members and public should know this that, it's not our fault.
According to him, there is no availability of petroleum products at government depots such as Mosinmi in Ogun State, Ibadan in Oyo State,Ilorin in Kwara State, Ore in Ondo and Lagos statellite Depot for the past three months.
"So, if our members sell their products at high prices people should bear with them and they should know that they also purchased at high prices at alternative depots.
"All we are doing now is just to make petroleum products available for the masses and make live meaningful to the people."Alhaji Tajudeen stressed.
"Things are bad , terrible and very unfortunate. Government depots are not loading and IPMAN has no alternative than to purchase from other means available to them". Tajudeen further expressed IPMAN displeasure.
