Ogun Customs Makes 1.4Billion Naira On Seized Contraband Goods Within 13 Months

Nigeria Customs Service Ogun1 Area Command, Idiroko,Ogun State has made a seizures of Contraband goods worth 1.4 Billion Naira between one year and one month.

The Contraband goods include 60,776.00 bags of foreign parboiled rice an equivalent of 101 Trailer loads,1,353 cartons of Frozen poultry products,15,000 liters of petroleum products, 127 small and 15 big sacks of Cannabis Sativa , Vegetable oil, Second hands clothes  and others numbering  One thousand,three hundred and eighty nine prohibited goods (1,389)across Ogun State.

The Controller of the Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi disclosed this in Idiroko while beefing Journalists on the Commands activities. 

According to him,all seizures cary  duty paid value of One billion,four hundred and eighty four million,four hundred and twenty two thousand,four hundred and forty seven Naira,zero kobo.(1,484,422,447.00) 

Comptroller Dera Nnadi said the achievement was made possible due to the aggressive stakeholders engagement and deployment of intelligence in all operations across the state.

Nnadi said other factors responsible for the achievement includes improved motivation of officers by NCS management as exemplified by the operational vehicles allocated to the Command and provision of accommodation in various outstations of the Command.

He as well attributed the success to improved discipline and total dedication to duty by officers of the Command and the structural reorganization of the Command. 

"However, these achievements so far,were not made on a platter of gold.On several occasions,our officers while performing their lawful duties come under sustained harassment and attacks from dare devil Smugglers and their supporters who use pump action riffles,AK-47 riffles,local charms and other dangerous weapons to attack,kill and maim officers. 

"We wish to reiterate that the sustained attack on operatives of NCS and other sister Agencies will not deter us from the continued performance of our legitimate duties in Ogun State". Comptroller Nnadi stressed. 

Controller Nnadi with deep sense of appreciations, said the attack on officers has drastically reduced over four months ago and thus, wished that the improved relationship with the good people of Ogun State and Customs remained cordial to further achieve Federal Government target.

On the part of  Customs, Comptroller Nnadi assured that,they will continue to dialogue,engage,sensitize and educate the public on social/economic implications of smuggling as well as performing statutory functions of enforcing compliance in line with Federal Government fiscal policies.

"During my courtesy visit to traditional rulers in various communities in the State and to the State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun,I sought for their support in combating smuggling and urged them to educate their subjects on the menace of smuggling and incessant attacks on security operatives discharging their statutory duties. 

"It is gratifying to note that we are all on the same page on the need to improve on our relationship with a view to maximize the opportunities offered by the proximity of the State to the border and develop trade in Ogun State.
 
"In all the traditional places visited the challenges facing the border  Communities were enumerated to include lack of Federal presence in terms of infrastructure, developments, unemployment of the youths and we received request for NCS to specifically create quota for children of the border Communities during recruitment exercises to generate employment for the teeming youths.

"I have communicated their request and recommended same to the Management of the Nigeria Customs Service." Nnadi stressed.

Full of appreciations to other security Agencies, Comptroller Nnadi appreciated them for their collaborative efforts in fighting smuggling and applealled for their continuous support.  

The Controller concluded his address with thanks to the Controller General of Nigeria Customs , Colonel Hammed Ali and the entire Customs Management  for the support at all times. He particularly expressed his appreciations over the new Ambulance vehicle allocated to the Command by NCS with assurance that the Command will make appropriate  use of the Ambulance.
