...Kwara Attorney General moves to take over prosecution 

An Ilorin-based entrepreneur, Islamiyat Oyin Olodo was on Friday arraigned in an Ilorin Magistrates Court on a four-count charge of cheating, mischief, defamation of character and criminal intimidation, all of which are in contravention of the Penal Code. 

Barrister Aishat Temim and Barrister Musa Bello Abdulkabeer who are the prosecuting counsels mentioned their appearances before the presiding judge, Magistrate Ibrahim Muhammed; while the defense counsel, Barrister Ayomide Ishola also announced his appearance and informed the court of the willingness of Attorney General of Kwara State, Salman Jawondo (SAN) to take over the prosecution. 

The representative of the AG, Barrister Ayoola Idowu Akande rose and announced his appearance on behalf of the Attorney General of the state.

Barrister Temim expressed shock as to why the Attorney General would have interest in the case, It was a bigger topic and wonder among within the court as to what would have prompted the Attorney General to signify intererest in the accused person Oyin lslamiyyat Olodo. Even though he admitted the constitution empowered him to do so.

The presiding judge, Magistrate Ibrahim Muhammed granted the approval of the Attorney General to take over the prosecution and adjourned the matter for proper mentioning to the 23rd of March, 2022.

Meanwhile, a senior Lawyer who prefers anonymity told INSIDER NG that the Attorney General's attempt to take over the prosecution is suspicious because the matter was barely getting started, although he said that was without prejudice to his Constitutional powers to do so.
