The Ogun 1, Area Command of Nigeria Customs has made a seizure of Seven Thousand Three Hundred and Eleven (7311) bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice an equivalent of 12 trailer loads.
The Command Controller, Comptroller Dera Nnadi disclosed this to Journalists on Wednesday at Press conference in Abeokuta,the capital of Ogun State.
According to him,this feast was achieved just within 36 days he assumed office as the Controller of the Command.
Controller Nnadi said that,if this quantity of bags of rice had escaped into the Nigeria markets it will definitely have negative affects on the federal government rice policy.
"If this quantity of rice is allowed into the Nigeria markets, it will definitely affects the Federal Government rice policy negatively" he affirmed.
Controller Nnadi also disclosed that several other seizures were also made during the period of his 36days in office to include ,12 kegs of 25 litres of vegetable oil,20 used vehicles tagged as means of conveyance,2 used motorcycle s,4 Bales of used clothing and 25 sacks of used shoes.
Others according to him,were 124 sacks of Cannabis sativa (book size) and 165 wraps of (coconut size) weighing 637kg.
Nnadi also revealed that his Command made a seizure of 2 bundles and 4 pieces of used tyres with rims,831 kegs of 25 litres of PMS totalling 20,775 litres,810 cartoons of Frozen poultry products and 4 sacks of used baby toys.
"The cumulative duty paid value (DPV) for all the seizures amounted to One Hundred and Seventy -Two Million,Nine Hundred and Ninety-Nine Thousand, Three, Hundred and Eighty-Seven Naira and Zero Kobo (172,999,387.00." Controller Nnadi stressed.
On revenue generation,he said that his Command generated 2,437,050.00.during the period under review, which he said are mainly proceeds of auction sales of seized petroleum products (PMS) and scrap metals.
"We are deploying massive intelligence and are also deploying rules of engagement in all our operations. This has yielded greater successes being recorded on daily basis without casualties.
"We have extended our stakeholders engagement to include continuous interactions with critical stakeholders in the Command. To this end, we have been engaging the youths who form the bulk of the human capacity asset in Ogun State particularly at the border areas.
"We have also been engaging the elders of the communities who in all honesty have a good knowledge and understanding of the challenges of enforcing government policy in the border especially as the border remained closed.
"We have been engaging with royal fathers of the state and has appealed to them to warn their subjects to desist from smuggling and and attacks on Customs personel.Let me use this medium to thank them for accepting to continuously help in this direction.We are also reaching out to the state governor who is the chief security officer of the state in this direction and the future looks mutually very rewarding for Nigeria Customs Service and the state." Controller Nnadi stressed.
Controller Nnadi concluded his statement by warning Smugglers and criminal elements in the state to henceforth desist from smuggling and embrace genuine ways of doing business.
" We shall definitely uncover every illegal act of theirs,make arrest and inflict gross financial injury on such ventures and their perpetuators." He stated
