Yewa North Residents Cautioned Against Open Defecation

Residents of Yewa North Local Government Area have been called upon to avoid open defecation and dumping of refuse in drainages, to guard against its devastating effects on their wellbeing.

 The Chairman of the Council, Hon. Gabriel Ogunyomi made this known while speaking with OGIS correspondent in Ayetoro, saying this would prevent ill health which could lead to loss of lives.

 Ogunyomi who decried people’s unwholesome attitudes of dumping refuse in drainages, which he said had contributed largely to environmental hazards, such as flooding and spread of contagious diseases, imploring them to always dispose their waste appropriately.  

Also speaking in a separate interview, the Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation Officer-in-charge of Oja-Odan, Mrs. Akorede Makinde, urged food vendors to maintain proper hygiene while preparing food, adding that, people should ensure healthy environment by keeping their surroundings clean at all time.

Speaking also in Oja-Odan, Alhaja Birikisu Dosumu appealed to the government for more provisions of essential facilities in markets across the area, assuring of prompt payment of taxes and other dues.

On her part, the Iyaloja of Yewaland, Alhaja Yemisi Abass, lauded the Local Government authority for the provision of public toilets in various markets and making compactors available during the weekly sanitation exercise, noting that it had aided proper waste disposal.
