Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has broken his silence following Sunday's 5-0 defeat to Liverpool.

The Reds dismantled their rivals at Old Trafford as Mohamed Salah, Naby Keita and Diogo Jota fired them to historic victory.

A number of United players have taken to social media in recent days to express their disappointment at the result and Rashford is the latest to apologise to fans.

In a post shared on social media, the England international admitted he is 'embarrassed' by what happened against Jurgen Klopp's men.

He shared in a tweet: "I can’t lie you haven’t heard from me on here because as a United fan I didn’t really know what to say after Sunday.

"I was embarrassed. I am embarrassed. Our fans are everything and you didn’t deserve that. We’re working hard to try and fix this.

"We have to redeem ourselves."

Rashford, who has only recently returned from a shoulder injury, made his third appearance of the season against Liverpool and was substituted on 62 minutes, shortly after Paul Pogba was sent off for United.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under increasing pressure as United's poor form continued against Liverpool.

However, players have taken responsibility for the result, as captain Harry Maguire told MUTV post-match: ’First and foremost, apologies to the fans, we need to be better and it’s not good enough.

"These are the big games that you come to the club to be a part of and to play in, so obviously it’s going to hurt.

"I think everyone needs to take a look at themselves in the mirror" he stated.
