Basari, the CEO of Basari Apparels and Textiles Nigeria Limited, is showcasing his skills at the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria's sports complex. His initiative, titled "Sew for the Nation," combines the pursuit of a world record with a charitable mission to support education for underprivileged students.
In a video posted on social media, Basari explained that he plans to create school uniforms for disadvantaged public school pupils as part of this marathon. "This is more than just a record; it’s about using creativity and vocational skills to uplift our community," he stated.
The tailor is striving to surpass the current record of 106 hours and 55 minutes, previously achieved by fellow Nigerian Oluwaseun Kuforiji in January 2025. Basari emphasized that this marathon is not just about personal achievement but also aims to inspire young artisans and dreamers in Nigeria.
Participants and supporters have been encouraged to engage with the event, which highlights the importance of vocational skills and community development. Basari's efforts aim to foster a sense of ownership and participation among local residents.
As the marathon progresses, it will be subject to verification by Guinness World Records before any new record can be officially recognized. Basari’s initiative not only aims for a world record but also seeks to create a positive impact in the lives of children who need support.
With the clock ticking, the community and spectators are rallying behind Basari, eager to witness this historic attempt. The event is a testament to the power of resilience and creativity, showcasing how one individual's effort can inspire a wider movement for educational empowerment in Nigeria.
