First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu announced the intervention during her visit to Calabar, highlighting that each affected business will receive ₦25 million. This financial support aims to help entrepreneurs recover from the substantial losses incurred during the August 22 fire, which destroyed properties worth billions of naira.
In addition to the primary relief package, Senator Tinubu presented ₦50 million to Bishop Eyoanwan Otu, the Wife of the Governor of Cross River State, to bolster women’s groups in the area. An additional ₦15 million was allocated to women who welcomed her during her visit, bringing the total assistance to ₦515 million.
“This intervention is intended to provide immediate support and help victims recover from their losses,” Senator Tinubu stated, expressing the President's condolences to the people of Cross River over the unfortunate incident.
Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River expressed gratitude for the timely gesture, noting that the relief package would significantly aid affected business owners as they work towards rebuilding their livelihoods.
He remarked, “This assistance will bring much-needed succor to those impacted by this disaster, allowing them to regain their footing in the business community.”
The fire incident has left many businesses in disarray, underscoring the need for swift governmental support to help restore economic stability in the region.
